How Do You Stop Scratching Irritated Skin?
• Find out what the irritation is. • Keep the area uncovered by clothing as clothing scratches skin continuously. • When you feel the need to scratch, put ice or cold water over the irritated area. • Pat the area dry with a clean towel. • If you feel the need to scratch again, don’t think about it. Do other things that involve movement: sports, dancing, or anything else. If the need to scratch is overwhelming, scratch very lightly, almost simply brushing the area, as most irritation will go away with a simple stimulus-reset of the affected tissue.
