Programs that are installed on Windows XP often add themselves to the startup routine so that whenever the computer boots up, they start up as well. Over time, this accrual of software can lead to slower boot times, so it’s a good idea to clean out the startup entries to stop programs from loading at the Windows startup. Start Windows, click the “Start” button and then open the “Run” utility. Type “msconfig” into the Run utility and hit “Enter.” Click on the “Startup” tab to see a list of programs that are set to start with the computer. Uncheck programs that you don’t want loading at the startup in Windows XP and then press the “OK” button. Restart the computer to apply your settings and see Windows start up without the programs that you unchecked.
