The Fair Credit Reporting Act allows four credit bureaus to supply lists of names to creditors and insurers who send out pre-screened or pre-approved applications. The FCRA also gives consumers the opportunity to put a stop to this by choosing to “opt out,” which removes your name from these lists temporarily or permanently.
