How Do You Stop Obsessing Over Disturbing Thoughts?
• Make a list of why you want to stop obsessing over your thoughts. • Replace disturbing thoughts or images with something positive, maybe a prayer or a positive thought. If it helps, even see the words. • Remember a very positive, peaceful time in your life, perhaps a place or an event. What did it look like, feel like, smell like? Try to remember as many sensory details as possible. When the disturbing thoughts enter your mind, replace them with this image. • The image and sense memory may work for you or the positive thoughts may work for you. Go with what feels right. • Meditate. Find a quiet spot and set an alarm to go off after 3-5 minutes. Close your eyes and inhale and exhale slowly. Think of a calm place, for example, a beach, an English garden, or space and remove everything but nature from your thoughts– no people, or any earthly or material things. Then repeat a mantra to yourself, for example, ‘I will succeed.’ Do not talk about trying to get over dirty thoughts with your
