How Do You Stop Mosquito Bites From Itching?

Those pesky mosquitoes. You’ve been bitten and you’ve tried everything to get those darn bites to stop itching — what are you going to do? Be patient. Before doing any of this- remember, no matter what you do, the itch will not fully go away until the scab or sore has healed. Go inside and thoroughly wash the affected area with rubbing alcohol [1] before anything else. Pat dry (rub it). Put a piece of Scotch tape (or similar) onto the bite. Leaving it there will make the itch almost entirely go away, and after a few hours, removing it will also remove some of the toxins that cause the itch. Take a nice, relaxing hot bath. • Use your fingernail to press “sunbursts” around the mosquito bite. This is a good method if the mosquito bite has popped. Use your fingernail to press an “X” into the bite. This disperses the protein and stops the itch for a while. • Dip a wash cloth into scalding hot water, but not so hot that it burns your skin. • Press the wet part of the cloth against the bite.

You don’t have to suffer with red, itchy, swollen mosquito bites summer after summer. While there are anti-itch products available commercially, there is a simple home remedy that is effective at neutralizing the itch and reducing swelling. Dissolve the baking soda in water. Soak washcloth in baking soda solution. Ring out approximately half the solution out of the washcloth. Allow the wet washcloth to sit on the bites undisturbed for 15 to 20 minutes. Dip one regular aspirin in the baking soda solution to moisten it. Do not allow it to dissolve. Rub the wet aspirin on the bites. This may deposit a white residue on the bites. Remove the aspirin residue when dry with a soft cloth.
