How Do You Stop Barking In Toy Breeds?
Toy dogs are bred with the sole purpose of serving as good companions for humans. While the ancestors of many toy breeds were working dogs such as shepherds, ratters and hunting dogs, these smart and able little dogs are often indulged by doting owners. Many people find bad behavior in a toy puppy cute, until they realize their little dog is no longer under their control. The resulting bad behavior leads to the stereotype of toy breeds as naturally “yappy” and annoying. In fact, such habits are often instilled by the owner’s reluctance to properly train their tiny canine. Respect your dog’s size by adjusting training methods appropriately. Avoid physical corrections, such as tapping on the nose or jerking the collar. Never strike, shout at or threaten your toy dog. Expect the same results from your small dog as you would from a big dog.
