How Do You Stop A Child From Lying?
You saw your child playing with his baseball outside and it went through the neighbor’s window, breaking it. He runs inside and says “Mommy, Mommy, Joey broke the neighbors window.” Your precious child is lying and you have no idea how to stop it. Well, just follow these steps and you can help your child stop lying. Explain to your child how important it is to be trusted in life. Ask your child if she would be willing to work with you on developing trust. Be a model for your child. If he sees you lying he is going to think it is okay to lie. If he sees you telling the truth, no matter how hard it may seem, then you are practicing exactly what you preach. Discipline your child with time outs or denying privileges when he lies. Explain to him that he is being punished for lying and not for the action that he lied about. Reward your child for telling the truth. Set her up to tell the truth and then reward her when she does.
