If you choose this route, it is critical that you make sure the jewelry is sterilized, otherwise you could risk a dangerous infection. Wash your hands with soap and water. This is the first step in the process of sterilizing your belly button ring. You don’t want to go to the trouble of sterilizing the belly button ring only to have bacteria from your hands take hold on the ring while you are piercing yourself or someone else.
