How Do You Sterilize A Canning Jar?

0

Sterilizing a canning jar is easy. Just boil the fully submerged jar in water for 15 minutes. This is usually the beginning step to any canning you may do. If re-using jars make sure to clean them with soap and water, or clean of lime deposits with vinegar before sterilizing them. Fill a large pot with enough water to completely immerse the glass canning jar. Place the glass jar(s) into the water, making sure they’re fully immersed. Doing it when the water is cold will save you from splashing boiling water on you. Put the pot on the stove at full heat. When the water is at a rolling boil, start timing. Keep the jars in the boiling water for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, turn off the heat and, using the tongues, remove the jars from the water. Ideally you’ll want to place them on a wire cooling rack.
