How Do You Stay Safe From MRSA (Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus)?
This is a superbug strain of staph found on an estimated 1/3 of the population. It colonizes on healthy skin, and only causes problems when it enters the bloodstream through a break in the skin. Four years after discovery of Penicillin, a resistant strain of bacteria was discovered called, Staphylococcus Aureus or more commonly known as staph infection. Methicillin was the form of penicillin used commonly and so started the birth of MRSA or methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Then Vancoymycyn was developed to combat the infections and in 1996 another strain of staph became resistant to that. A new strain of antibiotics was developed called oxazolidinones, but again a resistant strain was discovered in 2003. Community-Associated infections of MRSA (CA-MRSA) are now in epidemic proportions of rapidly progressive, fatal diseases including necrotizing pneumonia, severe sepsis and necrotizing fasciitis! Where? In places where close physical contact is normal such as hospitals, mili
