Palm trees grow outdoors in warm tropical climates, but people in colder climates may grow palm trees in containers inside the home. Palm trees do not mind growing in a northern window. They like a lot of water, but not soil that is constantly soggy. Avoid sudden temperature changes, because this causes palm trees stress. Palms are easy to grow from seed. When sowing seeds, remember they are sporadic. It can take anywhere from a few weeks to many years for some of the palm seeds to sprout. You can buy palm seeds that come in a package, but others bought at the supermarket or picked off the tree will have the fruit still attached. An example of this type of seed is the date.
