How Do You Start Herbs From Runners?
For one of the easiest propagation methods for new gardeners, try increasing your herb garden output by using runners. Mint and bee balm work well for propagating by runners. These herbs send out long horizontal rhizomes with leaves above and newly forming roots below. Herbs that produce runners can reproduce themselves without aid, but you can start new plants for your containers, friends or other parts of the garden. Identify the runners you want to propagate. You can choose several plantlets on the same rhizome stem. Leave them attached to the main plant for a foolproof method of guaranteeing continued nourishment for the new plant. Bury a 3-inch pot full of potting soil beside the plantlet. Push the plantlet into the soil and gently secure it with a u-shaped piece of wire. Water the plantlet thoroughly. You must keep the new plantlet continuously moist while new roots form. Check the bottom of the pot after a month. You should see small roots beginning to protrude through the drain
