Talk radio seems to be getting bigger and more popular every day. The number of people listening to personalities spout their opinions over the air grows endlessly. If you’re a radio executive looking to establish a new station in your area, talk radio may be the format that can take off for you. Know the political demographics of the city you’re looking for your station to be in. An Air America affiliate may not do well in a conservative area, and a progressive region won’t find Bill O’ Reilly appealing. Decide how you’re getting the station on the air. Starting one from scratch will include getting a transmission tower, a spot on the bandwidth and an FCC license. Your best bet may be gaining control of an established station and changing formats.
