Starting a pit bull rescue league may seem like an easy venture. This is hardly the case. Many pit bull rescues fail before their first anniversary. This is partly because of the negative thoughts associated with pit bulls. Careful planning and hard work will go a long way toward making your dream of helping abused and abandoned bullies a reality. Find out if there is breed-specific legislation (BSL) in your area. The Humane Society website (see Resources) has a listing of the areas with BSL pending and BSL that has been enacted. If BSL is a consideration in your area, you may have to move to open a pit bull rescue. Contact kennels in your area to find league members. When a kennel commits to being part of the league, find out what type of support to expect. Some kennels may offer financial support, and others may offer to care for a certain number of foster dogs. Keep detailed notes of which kennel commits to which kind of support. Arrange discounted or free care for the dogs at a loc
