Start a fire with a glass lens. It’s easier than you think. When the sun is at its highest point, get out your dry grass, or very dry shredded paper. Build a sort of nest with it. Keep small dry twigs and bigger sticks close at hand so you can get the fire going. This technique does not always work. The quality of light, the flammability of the material you are starting the fire with, the time of day, and overall dryness of the air are factors. Hold the glass lens directly between the path of the sun and your nest of grass and twigs. It should be fairly close to the material you are trying to burn. Concentrate the light in one area. If it starts to burn, the material will turn black and start to smoke. This is a sign that if you keep trying you will probably be able to start a fire using this method.
