How Do You Split An Ethernet Cable?
If you want to connect multiple computers to the Internet, instead of purchasing additional routers or hubs, you can split a single Ethernet connection into two using an Ethernet cable splitter. Using an Ethernet cable splitter is a cost effective way to connect two (or more) computers to a single Ethernet line. Plug the first Ethernet cable into the “Out” port of the device from which you want to send the Internet signal (typically a DSL/cable modem). Insert the other end of the Ethernet cable into the “In” port on the Ethernet cable splitter. Connect a second Ethernet cable into the “Out” port(s) on the Ethernet cable splitter. If your Ethernet splitter has multiple “Out” ports, you can use any available port. Plug the other end of one of the Ethernet cables into the “WAN” port of one of the computers. Insert the second Ethernet cable into the “WAN” port on the second computer.
