How Do You Solve Rational Equations On A TI-83 Plus Calculator?
The TI-83 graphical calculator, made by Texas Instruments, is a powerful tool used by students and professionals alike. It can be used to solve a myriad of different equation types, including rational equations. Using its graphical capability, you can even plot out a graphical representation of the equation on the screen. See how to solve rational equations using the example x/(x+2) = 8/(x+4). Turn on your calculator and hit the blue “Y=” button. Enter the first half of the equation into Y1. In this example, the first half of the equation would be “x/(x+2)”. Enter the second half of the equation into Y2. Use the arrow buttons to tab between fields. In this example, the second half of the equation would be “8/(x+4)”. Press “ENTER.” Press “2nd +Trace” and select option number 5, “INTERECT.” The solution to the equation is demonstrated by the x-values at the intersection points shown at the bottom of the screen.
