How Do You Solve Cat Box Problems?
Owning a cat can be a rewarding and positive experience. But a cat that won’t use his litter box properly can strain the pet-owner relationship and cause a great deal of stress. While it may take some detective work on your part to determine the root of the problem, the good news is that most litter box problems are quite manageable. Scoop the litter box each day, discarding all pee and poop clumps. Dump the litter completely every two to three weeks for scoopable litter, every week for clay litter. Thoroughly clean the emptied box using a mild dish detergent, such as Dawn, warm water and paper towels. Dry thoroughly. Refill the box, covering the bottom with a three-inch layer of litter. Be vigilant about keeping the box clean. If after two weeks your cat is still not using the litter box, the problem may be something other than cleanliness.
