How Do You Solder Components To PC Boards?
Soldering is a skill that can only be developed with proper instruction and practice. The experienced technician can make permanent connections to circuit boards in very little time. But skipping important steps can leave a solder joint that can break, or even disrupt electronic signals with noise caused by the intermittent connection that would be difficult to troubleshoot. Use only soldering supplies designed for electronic circuits and not for any other application, as the solder or flux could contain acids that work fine on copper pipe, but could harm sensitive electronic components. Clean the surfaces to be connected with a cleaning pad until they are shiny, and then clean off any dust or residue with solvent and a rag. Bend the leads of the component and place them into the holes provided on your PC board. On the other side of the board, bend the leads outward at about 45 degrees from the PC board. Clean the tip of your iron by heating it and applying a generous amount of solder.
