How Do You Snake A Floor Drain?
If sewage is backing up into your basement when you run the washer, you know you have some problems, but don’t panic. You can snake that floor drain and get things moving again before the laundry starts to back up as well. Buy a drain snake. Most home improvement centers have a variety of drain snakes. Choose one that has a crank and a case. These will be the least messy and easiest to control. Open up the floor drain cover. You may need to use a screwdriver to pry the cover off. Work the snake gently into drain. If the water is up over the top of the drain, try to find it with the snake end. You will encounter some resistance when you get to the trap on the line, but wiggle the snake around and it should work its way around the trap. Find the clog. Once you have worked around the trap, your snake should go in without resistance until you reach the clog. When you reach the clog, turn the crank to advance the corkscrew spiral at the end into the clog. Pull the snake back and forth until
