How Do You Skin A Mountain Lion?
The American Mountain Lion or, Cougar is a very rare and special animal. Its pelts and skins are of great value. The Navajo Indians of the Colorado Plateau teach that a quiver made from Mountain Lion Skin will protect the bearer. They also teach that it is wrong to hunt a mountain lion except out of necessity. If you do have a mountain lion carcass, here’s how you skin it. Lay the cat on its back. Start a cut over the breast bone, just about even with the front armpits. Cut a straight line down around the sex organ. Cut a long slit down the tail and peel this free like a banana. Grab a leg; start peeling the pelt in the direction of the spine as far you can it get it. Push the paw towards the chest. Grab the skin where you made your original cut. Pull that flap towards the leg while pushing the paw towards the cut. Doing this should turn the leg skin inside out as it peels off of the leg.
