How Do You Skate Backward On In-Line Skates?

0

Release the weight from in-line skates with a small jump upward and spin 180 degrees to end up skating backward. Practice skating backward until it feels as comfortable as skating forward. Roll slowly forward on your skates. Wind up your torso in the opposite direction you’re going to turn when you jump. Jump up just enough to release the weight from your skates. Unwind your torso and turn quickly 180 degrees while the weight is off your skates. You’ll end up facing the opposite direction but still rolling the same direction. Look over your shoulder to see where you’re skating. Lightly carve side-to-side once you’re comfortable with skating backward. Put pressure on the outside skate as you carve to generate speed. This is similar to pushing off when you are skating forward, except that you don’t lift a skate. Jump up and spin 180 degrees to face forward again.
