Taking the time to check the fit of your saddle makes your ride more comfortable and allows your horse to move more freely. Place the saddle pad on the horse and position it just behind the withers. Make sure the saddle pad is lying flat on the horse’s back with no wrinkles. Place the saddle carefully on top of the pad. Watch for any bunching on the saddle pad and smooth out any bumps or ridges you find. Walk to the right side of your horse and pull the girth down. Walk back to the left side and pull the girth toward you. Pull the billets on the saddle through the buckles on the girth. Pull the girth until it is just snug.
