How Do You Size Area Rug Pads?
A rug pad is used to keep area rugs in their place so they do not slide around on the floor. The pad also adds a little cushion to the rug as well. A properly size rug pad is required to be effective. A rug pad should be slightly smaller lengthwise and widthwise than the area rug. Rug pad can be found cut to size, but if the correct size cannot be found, trim a larger piece so it will work. Measure the size of the area rug that the rug pad will go under, using the tape measure. Purchase a rug pad that is smaller in length and in width than the area rug. If the area rug is an odd size, purchase a rug pad that is larger than the area rug. Lay the rug pad material out on the floor and measure and cut the rug pad down to size with a pair of scissors so it will fit well underneath the rug. Lay the rug pad out on the floor where the area rug will go. Then lay the area rug out on the floor in its place.
