Baseboard heaters are a good way to heat individual rooms, if you have the right size heater. As with other types of heaters, too small of a heater won’t be able to heat the room to the temperature you want. Too large of a heater will short cycle, a problem that causes the heater to turn on and off more than it should, which will cost you more money. Luckily, there is any easy way to find a general guideline for the size of heater you need. Measure the length of the room you want to heat with the baseboard heater, then the width. Multiply the length by the width to get square feet of the room. Determine the level of insulation in the room. Cracked windows, drafts, thin walls, or anything that allows air from outside in will contribute to a poor insulation problem.
