How Do You Show File Extensions In Windows Vista?

0

Windows Vista does not display file extensions (.doc, .exe, etc.) on default. However, you can change this by editing your folder options. Configuring your system to display the complete file extension is particularly helpful if you’re dealing with a file type that’s unrecognizable by Vista. The other benefit of displaying the file extension is the ability to change the file type; if the file extension is displayed, Vista allows you to change the file extension with ease by right-clicking the file and choosing “Rename.” If the file extension is hidden, you don’t have this option. Click on the Windows icon on your taskbar to access your start menu. Click “Control Panel” on the right side of the menu. Click “Appearance and Personalization” when the Control Panel menu appears. Click “Folder Options”; choose “View” when the Option box appears. Scroll down until you find “Hide Extensions for Known File Types.” Click the box on the left to deselect the option. Click “Apply,” then click “OK”
