Window blinds are a nice touch in any home, and even simple mini blinds can update the look of a room as well as perform the basic function of filtering or blocking light. However, some mini blinds may not fit properly in the window because you may have measured incorrectly or ordered the wrong size. It is possible to shorten the width of mini blinds with a little effort and a few basic materials. Step 1 Shorten the width on mini blinds by trimming down the valance, head rail and slats with a hacksaw. With your measuring tape, take the new blind measurements, drawing a line, in pen, where you’ll need to cut them. Step 2 Take the small metal piece or end stiffener from inside the head rail. Trim down the head rail with a hacksaw on the line you made. Seal shut the end of the head rail with pliers, and replace the end stiffener in the head rail.
