It’s very similar to nitrocellulose lacquer, the kind used to finish wood, and is applied in much the same way, with one key difference. Some auto lacquers are two-part–that is, they require the addition of a hardening agent or catalyst. You will need an air-spray gun, a compressor and a clean, dust-free environment to spray it. A spray booth is ideal, but you should have no problem working outside on a moderately sunny, windless day. The ideal temperature for spraying is 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Use masking tape to shield the surrounding area from spray. Tape all masking paper securely so that the air from the spray gun does not blow it apart. Read and follow the directions on the can specifying what hardening agents are required and how to thin the lacquer before spraying.
