A sock monkey just isn’t a complete sock monkey without its tail. You’re already into this monkey business with a full monkey body and legs. You may even have finished all the features such as a monkey snout, eyes and ears, depending on your method. Now it’s time to give this monkey its monkey tail. Lay the sock out flat on its side. Draw a line from the toe of the sock following the edge all the way up to the cuff. Curve your line at the cuff to bring the tail to a point. The width of your tail is up to you as long you are aware that you will be using the heel for the snout (so the tail can’t be too wide) and you will, of course, stuff the tail, so you don’t want it super skinny. Sew up the line and then cut just outside the seam. You may also cut off the toe of the sock, as it is not necessary. Turn the sock strip inside out so the seam is finished on the outside. Then stuff your monkey tail with small bits of batting until it is fully stuffed and you can’t find a bend or lump anywhe
