How Do You Sew Ribbons On Ballet And Pointe Shoes?

Easy instructions for sewing ribbons on ballet or pointe shoes for the comfort and safety of the dancer. Please rate my article above by holding cursor over the stars. Thanks! Ribbons are not attached to pointe or ballet shoes when purchased. Some manufacturers include the ribbon but if not it can be purchased at your local fabric store. Most dancers also sew elastic to the shoe for reinforcement. Ribbon placement – Placement of the elastic and ribbons should be marked on the shoes while on the dancer’s feet. The proper alignment is directly under the ankle bone on both sides of the foot. Attach the elastic first, by sewing it tightly to both sides of the shoe. The elastic should fit snugly over the top of the foot. Sewing the ribbons – Fold about ½” of ribbon under to double the strength of the ribbon before sewing. Sew the ribbon tightly at the top edging of the shoe with several layers of reinforcement to ensure they do not come loose. Repeat on opposite side of shoe.
