One way to help children stay cozy throughout the harsh winter days is by providing them with a pair or two of homemade leg warmers. Sewing a pair of leg warmers is an inexpensive project that can be completed within a relatively short amount of time, and the project is simple enough for even the novice seamstress to successfully complete. Measure the length of the child’s leg from just below the knee to the ankle. Add an additional 4 to 6 inches to the length of the required material to accommodate the cuffs of the leg warmers as well as to allow for bunching of the material when worn. Measure around the child’s leg where the legwarmers will be worn, typically just below the knee. Add 1 inch to the width of the material needed to allow for the seam along the inside of the leg warmers.
