Wooden chair seats can become scratched from metal grommets and buttons on pants, so these chair pads are handy to protect the wood and also provide a softer place to sit. You can find heavier weight fabric scraps on clearance at many fabric stores or consider calling some furniture stores. My scraps came from fabric swatches that a furniture store was going to toss, the manufacturers had changed dye lots and styles and these swatches were no longer needed. Also, I used pieces of carpet pad, because I had some leftover from another project and it seemed to be a good thickness. Use a piece of newspaper to make a pattern by tracing your seat onto the paper, cut it about 1/2″ smaller than the chair seat all around and round off the corners. Measure the seat of your chair. Mine was not quite square, so it was 17″ deep by 16″ at the back and 19″ at the front. These measurements give you the size you will need for the fabric and padding. Also, add the measurements for all four sides and that
