How do you setup a strain gauge into a wheatstone bridge circuit and measure resistance?

The Wheatstone bridge looks like a full wave bridge rectifier circuit. You would replace the four diodes with strain gages. As for the resistance measurement it can be measured across each strain gage. If you choose to measure it at the wire point then you have to remember that the gage circuit is two in series and those two points are parallel to the other half of the bridge. Strain gages come in different resistances. It’s hard to explain in text. I used too work at HBM and they are in fact a world leader in strain gage technology.
