Setting up a freshwater aquarium filter is important for the health and appearance of your fish tank. There are multiple types of filter that can be used, and each requires a different method of set-up. Before adding fish to your aquatic habitat, set up the freshwater aquarium filter correctly. Prepare the freshwater aquarium filter for set-up by rinsing it with clean water in a sink or basin. Rinse all the parts of the filter including the plastic box, the tubes and filter cartridge if any is included. Do not use soap or any cleaning solutions.
