How Do You Set Up A Duty Roster For A Camping Trip?
Ever get frustrated because it seems like you always get stuck with the cleaning up on a camping trip? Prevent it from happening by setting up a duty roster beforehand, and giving it out to everyone in advance. This enables everyone to share the work and the fun. • List all of the duties (on a piece of paper) that need doing on a regular basis in your campsite. This can include: • Setting up the camp • Collecting firewood • Digging latrine/garbage sump • Hauling cooking and cleaning water • Cooking • Washing dishes • Doing a sweep of the site before dark to make sure it is clean from debris and food • Stoking the fire overnight • Breaking down camp • Sort how often each duty needs to be done, and create a schedule for the duration of your trip. • Assign one or two people to each task on a revolving basis, so nobody gets stuck doing the same thing too often. Get the list approved by everyone on it before you get there. That way there shouldn’t be any disputes.
The goal of a camping trip is for everyone to relax and have fun. That doesn’t happen if one person does all the work while the rest of the group plays. Before you go on your next camping trip set up a duty roster for the entire family. That way everyone has specific tasks to perform and yet everyone gets to relax as well. Step 1 Make a list of all the tasks you normally do around the campsite. This would include setting up and breaking down camp, collecting firewood, hauling water, cooking, washing dishes and keeping the fire going at night. There are many other tasks and you may want to include tasks involved in packing and unpacking at home. Step 2 Divide the list of tasks by difficulty. If you have young campers with you, assign them the easier tasks. Or break the more difficult tasks into smaller jobs. Step 3 Determine the number of times each task needs to be done while you are camping. Some need to be done only once on the campout, while others need to be done throughout the day
