How Do You Set External Hard Drive Jumpers?
Jumper pins on a hard drive set its state for the computer. An external hard drive is set to a master drive, which means it is the main external drive for the computer. Secondary drives are set as slaves, and they are booted and used as backup partition and storage. When configuring jumper pins on a hard drive, you need to identify the white jump pins and move them to the right location. You can set jumper pins by hand, or use tweezers to grasp the hardware. View the back of the hard drive. There are three blocks of configurations and connections for the hard drive. The pins on the left are used to connect the power cord. The pins on the right are for the IDE connection cable that attaches to the motherboard. The pin section in the middle is the jumper pin section. In this section you will find a white pin that is used to set the hard drive. View the top section, directly over the jumper pin section. This section labels each column of jumper pins. Look for the the section labeled “MA.”
