How Do You Sepia Tone A Black And White Print?
• Find a black and white print you would like to sepia tone and make sure you have bleach and sepia tone in two separate trays as well as a darkroom to access. • Rinse the print in a tray under a running faucet for 2-3 minutes. • Put the print in the tray filled with bleach until most of the image disappears which should be about 1-2 minutes. • Rinse the print in the tray in the sink for a minute. • Wash the print in the water wash in the darkroom for 3 minutes. • Place the print in the sepia tone for 2-3 minutes, taking it out when the desired level of toning has been reached. • Rinse the print in the tray under the faucet for one minute. • Wash the print in the water wash in the darkroom for 10-25 minutes. • Dry the print on a drying rack over night. Do not use any heat to dry your print as that could ruin it. Repeat if the desired level of tone was not reached.
