Microsoft Windows is a DOS-based operating system. This means that on every version of Windows, there is a program called command prompt that runs DOS. Using DOS, you can send messages to other users. There is a catch, however– on most of the later versions of Windows (Windows XP and later), the Messenger service is disabled by default. In this case, you must first enable the Messenger service in the Windows Control Panel.
