Windows XP users have the ability to manage the startup items that load automatically when they turn their computers on. Some programs are necessary and must start when you boot up your computer. Other programs slow down your computer because the more programs you run at one time, the more resources your computer uses. Through a process of trial and error, you can decide which programs you need to have started every time you boot up your computer. Click the “Start” button and then click “Run.” Enter “MSCONFIG” in the empty field that appears, and then click “OK.” Find the “Startup” tab at the top of the System Configuration utility that appears, and click this tab.
