How Do You Select Band Saw Blades?
“Hi, I’m Dave Trull with the Trull Gallery, a custom furniture shop in St. Petersburg, Florida, and I’m going to talk to you about how to select band saw blades. The first and most obvious is you have to get a blade the correct length for you to saw, whether it’s a fourteen-inch band saw, a twelve-inch band saw, an eighteen-inch band saw, they each have a specific size, or a specific length for that blade. One thing you want to keep in mind is the thickness of your stock. If you’re running fairly thin stock, you can run a blade with lots of teeth. you’re really doing some thick stock or re-sawing, you don’t want many teeth in your wood. A good way, a good rule of thumb is three teeth per inch in the stock you’re cutting. The next thing is how tight are your curves. If you’re going to be cutting a lot of really delicate scroll work, you want to work with a much thinner blade, if you’re re-sawing, you want to go with the thickest saw, the, the widest blade your saw can handle.
