How Do You See The South Dakota Missouri River Valley?
The Missouri River begins at the confluence of the Madison, Jefferson and Gallatin rivers in Montana. It ends outside St. Louis, where it joins the Mississippi. It drains one sixth of America. It also carves out a one of America’s most beautiful and fertile valleys, particularly in the state of South Dakota. Take Interstate 90 until you reach the intersection at State Highway 83. Take 83 north until you reach Pierre, South Dakota. Take 83 through Fort Pierre until you reach 1806. Follow 1806 north until it reaches the Oahe Dam. After taking a tour of the Oahe dam, turn back south and follow 1806 into Fort Pierre. This highway is part of the Native American Scenic Byway. This road cuts through the heart of the Great Sioux Nation and parallels the Missouri River. While in Pierre, visit the Cultural Heritage Center.
