How do you see implementation of WTO and its implications on Pakistans economy?
DMIB: It is a more liberal system of doing business and WTO regime is not only bringing challenges but it is also bringing lot of opportunities. Its up to those who encash opportunities. Those who dont prepare themselves for the challenges they will be nowhere. I was one of the signatories of WTO; I went with the then Commerce Minister Choudary Mukhtar to Morocco for signing WTO agreement representing Pakistan. We were given ten years but we were sleeping; its only last 2 years since we have woken up. But in this short span nothing much could have been done. Large scale manufacturers did on their own like up gradation of technology and reducing cost of production etc. Smaller industries could not do any thing in this regard. The other big challenge we are facing, is social compliance. The developed countries have long ago settled the issues of quality by establishing a comprehensive national quality infrastructure.
