How Do You See Deer At Point Reyes National Seashore?
Point Reyes National Seashore is a paradise for wildlife—a situation that is all the more striking given how close Point Reyes is to the very center of the San Francisco Bay Area. Among the animals you will see here are deer. A confusing variety of deer species live in the area, including axis deer, fallow deer and black-tailed deer. The average visitor to Point Reyes will have a hard time telling them apart and so will plenty of seasoned visitors. However, seeing one is easy, if you know where to look. Go to the Point Reyes Peninsula. You will find a single main road, Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. It passes through the town of Inverness on Tomales Bay, then turns inland to climb over Inverness Ridge. At the top of the ridge, you will see a sign marking the boundary of Point Reyes National Seashore. Just past the sign, you will see the junction with Pierce Point Road. Turn right. Take Pierce Point Road to the Abbotts Lagoon trailhead. Park here and set out on the Abbotts Lagoon trail. I
