How Do You Secure A Loose Floorboard?
Wooden floors can keep your home free of dust mites, mold and allergens. Occasionally, a floorboard will come loose. You don’t have to call a repair professional when that happens. It’s an easy fix. Step 1 Brush chalk or even talcum powder in between the floorboards where they are creaking. This works well for moderate creaks. If the creaks are loud and the floorboards are excessively loose, move on to Step 2. Step 2 Test the floorboards with your feet to find the creaking, loose board. Loose floorboards will move or “give” under your foot. Step 3 Lift the loose floorboard to find out what’s beneath it. Use a chisel to pry the board up if you have square-edges boards, and a saw to cut through the tongue of a tongue and groove board. Note any wire or pipes underneath. Avoid them during the repair.
