How Do You Season A Dutch Oven?

0

Seasoning your cast iron Dutch Oven properly is an important part of good Dutch oven cooking. Seasoning your cast iron dutch oven is an important process. It protects the metal from moisture which will cause the Dutch oven to rust. The seasoning process begins with washing the Dutch oven with warm soapy water and rinse well. Then place in a warm oven to dry, leaving the oven door ajar. After the Dutch oven is thoroughly dry pour oil on a clean cloth or paper towel. Then rub oil over the entire inside and out of the Dutch oven lid and pan. When the Dutch oven has been oil completely, set the oven at 350 and allow to preheat. Once Heated, place the lid and pan onto the oven rack in the center of the oven. By placing a cookie sheet underneath the Dutch oven and lid it will catch the oil drippings, for less mess. Bake the Dutch oven for one hour. Allow it to cool completely before you remove it from the oven. Then repeat the oiling and baking process two more times.
