How Do You Seal Granite Counter Tops?
Granite counter tops are not sealed upon installation unless specified by the contractor. Sealing the counter is an easy task and will be appreciated when the first glass of red wine or grape juice is spilled on it. Granite counter tops are a natural stone made of mineral crystals. Many stone slabs have small cracks and stresses that absorb spills and produce stains that are difficult to remove. Sealing the counter top will prevent this absorption and keep the counter looking nice. Test the counter top to verify it needs sealing by placing several drops of water on the surface. The counter top should be sealed if the granite absorbs the water in under 5 minutes. Purchase a granite counter top sealer from a retail hardware store. Clean the granite to remove dirt and dust particles. Let the granite dry for 24 hours prior to applying a sealer. Apply the granite sealer using a clean rag or foam brush on one section of counter top that is approximately 4-5 feet in length. Let the sealer set
