How Do You Seal Between Steel Exterior Door Frames And Block Walls?
Exterior steel door frames installed in concrete block walls can be long lasting and durable. Usually referred to as “hollow metal frames,” they are most common in heavy duty structures such as schools, hospitals, stores and other high-traffic buildings. If the frame is properly installed and the joint between the frame and the masonry is tight, the door frame will give years of service. An improper seal, however, will allow water infiltration that can rust connections, damage the frame and require replacement. Proper sealing also can prevent heat loss. Confirm that the steel frame is securely installed in the masonry wall. A door frame with visible movement cannot be properly sealed. If you are installing a new frame use the base anchor, straps, tees or wires as supplied by the manufacturer. Use masonry screws in existing openings.
