A mule deer buck is a game animal that many hunters pursue in the mountains and sage brush of the western United States. A mounted mule deer head makes an impressive trophy; however, for many hunters, a mount like this is out of their price range. The alternative to a full head mount is to mount the antlers, which are impressive in themselves. The first step is to saw off the antlers properly. Step 1 Cut the deer’s head off the neck just below the jaw. Step 2 Lay the deer head on its side, with the antlers hanging off the edge of a table or bench. Step 3 Position the saw so that it is parallel to the base of the antlers and forming a 90 degree angle to them. The line to cut goes through the eyes, across the bridge of the muzzle and at the base of the ears. Step 4 Hold the head down by pressing hard on the jaw area with your free hand.
