How Do You Save Energy When Cooking Pasta?
Pasta is a great food for so many reasons. It’s a great comfort food, provides plenty of carbs (and some protein) and is really easy to cook. It’s also really easy to save energy while cooking it! The first step in saving energy any time you use the stove is to make sure your pot size matches the size of your burner. If your pot is smaller than the burner, you will be wasting energy, this is particularly true with non-gas stoves. Fill your pot with the minimum amount of water necessary to cook your pasta. Play around with it a bit to see how little you can use, since less water equals less energy to make it boil. Cover your pot and turn the stove burner on high until your water is boiling. (To save even more energy, you can place the pasta in the water while the water is heating up.) As soon as the water begins to boil, place your pasta in the pot and turn your burner down to the lowest heat level that will maintain boiling. Cover and boil your pasta for 2 minutes.
