How Do You Sanitize Dishes With Bleach?
Whether you’re on a camping trip or have someone in your home who is sick with the flu, sanitizing your dishes with bleach is an excellent way to kill germs. Bleach was used as an alternative means of sanitation for decades before dishwashers were common features in houses. If you have a power outage or a problem with your water source, turn to bleach to ensure that your dishes are safe to use. Pour 1 gallon of hot water into a 2-gallon bucket and add 1 tbsp. of bleach, taking care not to splash any bleach on your clothing or skin. Wash each dish in hot sudsy water and rinse under running clear water (or dip in a sink full of clean water if no running water is available). Dip the rinsed dish into the bucket of bleach solution and then hold it above the bucket for a moment to allow excess bleach water to drain off. Place the sanitized dish in a drainer and allow to drip dry, or hand dry with a clean towel. Repeat the process until all dishes are clean and sanitized.
